I’m officially a Two-Time Full Ironman 140.6 Triathlon Finisher! I registered for this race 4 weeks ago. I rode my bike three times, swam twice, ran less than a mile, and I still beat last year’s time by 19 minutes. Now, I really think I’m something great. Finishing this race is a testament to my mental fortitude. Experts say completing an event like this is 80% mental and 20% physical. I think it’s 100% mental. The second loop of the bike course and the 26.2 run portion of the race were DARK. During the bike, a torrential downpour occurred which lasted for 3 hours. The downpour combined with the windchill and the fact that the race took place in the Adirondack mountains caused me to go hypothermic. My hands became so cold that they turned purple and I wasn’t able to shift the gears on the bike. The medical staff made me stop for 1 hour and put me in a truck so I could warm up. After this, I really had to go to that dark place within my mind and utilize the villain mentality in order to bring out the aggression needed to cross the finish line. As the icon @davidgoggins once said, “To survive in hell, you must become the devil himself.” I’d like to thank my family and friends for their support, and I look forward to the next challenging endeavor whatever it may be.
Had an incredible time racing in the Hyrox NYC event yesterday with my brother @oddie4real. Thank you @mbharrison_ and @renatogamboa_ for the support! Looking forward to competing in more races! #priceless
Always an honor being surrounded by like-minded driven individuals ⚔️
Continuously Striving to make a positive impact in this world and to make those who have my back proud.
Family is everything, and I’m very blessed to be part of such an incredible one. After all of the adversity and obstacles I faced in my life, my family was always there for me and had my back. I am beyond grateful for my siblings, Max, Paige, Oliver aka “Doc”, and Annie. I would also like to thank my Father and Mother for being the best parents a son could ask for. Life is a gift, make it worthwhile.
As I crossed the finish line the announcer said, “Grant Accurso, you are an Ironman!!!” Those words had been playing in my head throughout the entire race. And once I conquered those 140.6 miles, those words became a REALITY. Competing in this Full Ironman was an incredible and priceless experience. This race included a 112 mile bike, a 26.2 mile run, and a 2.4 mile swim. Finishing a Full Ironman is a goal I’ve had since I was 9 years old. Now, I’m part of the Top 1%! At this point, I know I can overcome anything life throws at me. GREATNESS has been ACHIEVED!
